A man who died after entering the sea is thought to be a pensioner, according to police.
The body was found floating in the sea near Portland Place, Brighton on Saturday about 5.30pm.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate the man, who is from Brighton and thought to be in his 70s, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police this morning confirmed basic details about the man in a statement but formal identification has not yet taken place.
It said he had entered the sea from a nearby groyne for reasons not yet known.
The incident took place shortly after another body was pulled from the sea about 150 metres east of Brighton Marina about 3.25pm.
The local coastguard assisted in bringing the body of a white male to the shore.
Police are not treating either death as suspicious.
The Coroner's Officer has been informed and is investigating the circumstances and attempting to establish the mens' identities.
A spokesman for the police said there was “no reason” to believe the incidents are connected.
