A would-be thief threatened two parking attendants with a stick as he ran off from an auction house.
The parking attendants were not assaulted as the man made his escape to a car parked nearby.
As he was running away he dropped a quantity of valuable walking sticks which he had previously stolen from the auction house. These were recovered.
The incident took place at 8.15pm on Friday at Gorringes auction rooms in North Street, Lewes.
Police enquiries are currently being made to trace the suspect.
