Police investigating a street sex attack are trying to trace this man.

Officers are planning to return to Park Street, off Eastern Road, Brighton, tomorrow morning to try to find witnesses to the attack on a 26-year-old woman.

She was followed there and grabbed at about 2.40am last Wednesday. A passing cyclist heard her screams and chased the attacker away.

Uniformed officers and detectives are due to take to the streets tomorrow to quiz passers-by who may have been nearby at the same time last week.

Detective Inspector Mick Jones, of Brighton and Hove CID, said: "We would like help in identifying the man seen in the CCTV footage as we believe he may be a vital witness for police.

"We are appealing for people who were in this area on Tuesday night and the early hours of Wednesday morning last week to recall whether they can remember seeing the male pictured.

"We are also still appealing for a man who walked past the victim in a westerly direction along Edward Street near the junction with Upper Rock Gardens at about 2.40am on Wednesday morning.

“This male may have seen the offender following the victim."

A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and released on bail without charge but police are still searching for people who can identify the culprit.

The crime is not being linked to any others.
