Four people arrested following protests against public sector cuts have been released on bail.

About 3,500 people took the streets of Brighton and Hove yesterday during a day of strike action.

A woman and three men were arrested at about 3.30pm for public nuisance and aggravated trespass offences.

Police said this was after a group of about 25 people broke off from the march and were responsible for an assault against staff in Churchill Square, Brighton.

Officers added there was disruption within Boots and Barclays Bank which prevented and obstructed staff and customers.

A police spokeswoman confirmed a 20-year-old man from Brighton, 21-year-old man from Hove, an 18-year-old woman from Brighton and a 20-year-old man from Staffordshire were all bailed until August 10.

A member of the campaign group Brighton Uncut revealed the arrested quartet, dubbed the “Brighton Four”, were released just after midnight.
