REGARDING Dick Knight’s wish for Brighton and Hove Albion to resist changing match day kick-offs for TV coverage (The Argus, June 18), I would like to add my view.

I have only been a Brighton resident for ten years, but have adopted the Albion as my “home” team, and followed their ups and downs – including attending games at Withdean.

The possible re-scheduling of their first league game against Doncaster Rovers for the sake of TV coverage ignited much debate and rightly so.

I suggest, though, that this is a good thing.

By all means play Tottenham Hotspur in a friendly before the official start of the season – it does, after all, show Gus Poyet’s former employer’s respect him and it’s quite a coup.

At the same time, however, let the first league game be made available to as many people as possible.

To those who suggest a fixture against Doncaster Rovers might not be “attractive”, I would suggest they’re missing the point somewhat.

The broadcast media will want to feature games involving teams that have gained automatic promotion in the hope of a banana skin moment.

In addition, much-welcome revenue will come the Seagulls’ way and thousands of Albion fans will have the opportunity to cheer on their heroes “live”, rather than waiting for edited highlights when it’s well past bedtime.

Just a thought.
