I ENJOYED the article on the origins of local place names (The Argus, June 24).

But I would like to point out that the Bat And Ball pub in Ditchling Road was named after the Brighton cricket ground, which was situated at The Level.

This was the main cricket ground for Brighton and Hove prior to the formation of Sussex County Cricket Club in Hove.

HAS anyone asked the owners of The Level what they want done with it (The Argus, June 27)?

My mother, who was born in 1921 at Brighton General Hospital and lived all her life in the Elm Grove area, now known as Hanover, always told me it was given to the children of Brighton.

What right do the adults have to make a decision on the redevelopment of it?
