A school pupil has raised £350 for charity in memory of a former teacher.

Sasha Murray, from Brighton, took part in the Brighton Marathon Mini Mile in April in memory of her piano and Russian language teacher, Irina Syenko, who died of secondary breast cancer in October, aged 39.

The nine-year-old handed over the money to The Martlets Hospice in Hove where mother of-two Irina was cared for in the last two days of her life.

Sasha, who also took part in the London Bikeathon Ride to raise money for Leukaemia research last month, hopes the money can be spent on creating more much-needed beds at the hospice.

Robert Griffiths, director of fundraising at the Martlets, thanked Sasha on behalf of everyone at the hospice.
