An area of water was searched after a fisherman reported seeing a body.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police and coastguards searched on and offshore at Bognor after a report of a body in the water.
“The search began at 10.15pm yesterday after a local fisherman on shore saw what he thought was the body of a man floating in the water just off Marine Drive West.
“Police and coastguards searched both on and off shore for several hours during the night but nobody has been found and the search has been called off.”
