Flying aces the Red Arrows could stage a spectacular flypast at this year’s Shoreham Airshow.

Event organisers are talking to Britain’s crack display team about an appearance at the event next month.

The team hopes to stage a fly-past at Shoreham Airport with either the last flying Vulcan bomber, an iconic Spitfire or another historic aircraft.

The event will help raise funds for the RAF Wings Appeal before the Red Arrows fly on to give a display in Dorset.

Up to 50,000 people are expected to see more than six hours of flying displays on each day of the show on August 20 and 21.

Celebrities including Dancing on Ice star Jayne Torvill and actors Sir Donald Sinden and Brian Capron are expected to sign autog raphs for fans as they mingle with the crowds.

The main theme of the event will be the 70th anniversary of the RAF search and rescue force. Sea King helicopters will stage rescue displays over the runway with the crew of Shoreham lifeboat.

A second Sea King from RAF Valley, where Prince William is stationed, will also be there although show organisers say the Duke of Cambridge will not attend.

The Great War Display Team will recreate dogfights from the era while Spitfires and Hurricanes will battle it out against Messerschmitt 108s and 109s in the Battle of Britain Scramble.

The show is the 22nd to be held at Britain’s oldest commercial airport and will raise funds for the Royal Air Forces Association.

Chairman Don Bean said: “Tickets are selling really well and online sales in particular are excellent. We hope that between 45,000 and 50,000 visitors will come through the gates over the two days.”
