A MAN is in hospital after being shot at a convenience store, police said today.

The shooting happened at Margery Road Stores in Portslade at 10.30am.

The victim is in a stable condition in hospital and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, a Sussex Police spokeswoman said.

Officers are searching for two suspects in connection with the shooting.

The police spokeswoman said: "It's a fast-moving operation. It's too early to talk about possible motives but we are keeping an open mind.

"Police would like to reassure the local community that everything is being done to bring the offenders to justice."

The force helicopter was scrambled and firearms officers were deployed in the search for the suspects while witnesses were being interviewed at the scene.
