I read with dismay bus fares are to increase again (The Argus, September 9). This latest hike is most unfair.
Making travel before 9am more expensive is just a way to squeeze money out of people who have to get to work.
Why should they pay extra? For me, my partner and child to go to town will cost more than £6.50, even with my daughter's Bus ID.
I can see with the increasing price of diesel some of this increase must be passed to the paying public but a flat fare is no longer appropriate.
If I need a bus to get my shopping two or three stops, I would be royally ripped off.
Set the new fare as a maximum for long journeys but reintroduce lesser fares for shorter journeys.
It may be fair to charge £3.20 if one is to use the bus all day (I might start taking picnics and stay for lunch) but not for a short trip in this little city of ours.
