Confidential information including a man’s HIV status was sent to the wrong person in a privacy blunder.
The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has apologised after the letter disclosing that the man was HIV positive was mistakenly delivered to Jackie Whakely amongst her own benefit assessment documents.
The letter, marked private and confidential, contained the man’s name, his HIV positive status, address and national insurance number as well as some work and personal background information.
It had been written to a Jobcentre to support the man’s application for employment and support allowance.
It was mistakenly included in a pack sent to Mrs Whakely, of Bolney Road, Brighton, ahead of her tribunal appealing against her own employment and support allowance being reduced.
