Youngsters learned life skills on a day out in Stanmer Park, Brighton, thanks to money donated by The Argus Appeal.

The Queen's Park and Craven Vale Action Group, a community organisation set up to help youngsters on the two Brighton estates, was given £1,000 by the appeal to spend on various activities.

At Stanmer Park, the group harvested vegetables and learnt outdoor survival skills such as shelter building and how to keep themselves warm.

Project coordinator Karen Wydler said: "They learned about composting and we did a lot of stuff in the woodland.

"It was an educational day where they could learn about how food grows and how to live a healthy life."
