Delegates attending Sunday evening's Liberal Democrat conference gala dinner will be offered an alternative menu by Falmer For All campaigners.

Designed to look like the real thing, the spoof menus will carry the campaign's message in support of Brighton and Hove Albion's Falmer stadium plan.

The inclusion of joke specialities such as Lewes Hand-raised Porkies, Aunty Ann's Fantastically Fishy Snaps and Canard de Lewes avec Nimby Sauce are designed to highlight the campaign's criticism of Lewes District Council's ruling Liberal Democrat regime and MP Norman Baker.

Mr Baker has been an outspoken critic of them plan while the council, under leader Ann De Vecchi, has been accused of deliberately attempting to delay the stadium by challenging John Prescott's planning permission in the High Court.

The tongue-in-cheek menus will be handed to guests at the Royal Pavilion dinner by campaigners dressed in evening wear. Cocktails on offer include Lewes Screw Rum with bananas and Anndevecchi bitters. Tasting notes say the drink offers a "hint of sour grapes".

One of the main courses is freshly-caught Codswallop la Conseil de Lewes lunatique.

The stunt will follow a rally outside the Brighton Centre earlier in the afternoon expected to attract thousands of Albion fans.

Falmer For all chairman Paul Samrah said: "We have always been respected for our pointedly good-humoured campaigning.

"That continues with our gala dinner menu poking fun at Baker and Ann De Vecchi.

"I urge everyone to make the effort and come along to our rally. It will be the biggest demonstration ever seen at a Lib Dem party conference and will make delegates well aware of the illiberal and undemocratic stance taken by both the Lewes Lib Dems and their MP.

"Such actions are losing the party votes right across Sussex."

Protesters are asked to assemble on the seafront outside the Brighton Centre at 3.30pm for a 4pm start.
