Brighton and Hove Albion has launched a campaign to tackle homophobic abuse from football fans.
The club is calling on the FA to take tough measures to stamp out homophobia with its Time for Action campaign.
Albion fans are regular targets for homophobic chants from rival supporters, particularly at away matches.
Chief executive Martin Perry said: "We get abuse and some of it is, frankly, totally and utterly unacceptable.
"The chants are obscene and when you've got young children and women then it's not acceptable and we need to deal with it."
PC Darren Balkham, Sussex Police football liaison officer, added: "We just want the clubs and the stewards to be empowered by the FA to take action."
