BRIGHTON is a great place to be, and it’s such a pleasure to be able to sit outside in the sun and enjoy a coffee. However, many motorists seem to be unaware that Sydney Street, for example, is a designated pedestrian zone from 10am to 5pm every weekday – not just at weekends when the road is bollarded off.
There are clear signs at the Trafalgar Street end and a “no left turn” sign for those approaching from St Peter’s Church. Despite the signage, there is a constant procession of oversized vehicles throughout the day, belching out fumes and tooting any pedestrians that dare walk in the road.
It’s time this zone was enforced properly. If the police don’t have the resources, why not install cameras such as the ones being used in the bus lanes? Fine anyone using North Laine as a rat run.
