I NOTE that Canning Street in Kemp Town is to be granted resident parking. This was originally turned down because of displacement, so what has changed?
The other three streets that make up Baker’s Bottom will now be inundated with even more cars. When Brighton College pupils reach 17, many acquire a car. Most people would assume that, as they attend that school and have a car, they could afford to pay for parking instead of preventing residents from parking.
When there was a review of this area and it was put to the vote, I understand resident parking was rejected by a majority of just four votes. I think this was due in part to people who have more than one car and other people who can manage to get to work without using their car. This situation in Baker’s Bottom cannot continue and an urgent review is needed.
