Two councillors have forced a meeting of the Scrutiny Committee to consider the recent decision about the Citywide Parking Review. This call-in committee will sit on Friday 14th October at 10.00am in Hove Town Hall.

There are eight members (four Green, two Labour and two Conservative) with a Labour chair with a casting vote, just in case. This committee cannot be whipped i.e. it is not supposed to make decisions on Party lines.

Both Councillor Anne Pissaridou (Labour, Wish Ward) and Councillor Garry Peltzer Dunn (Conservative, Wish Ward) called-in the decision taken by a Cabinet member last Tuesday 4th October regarding the roll-out of future Controlled Parking Zones. That decision also looked at previous parking consultations and reversed them. Some areas will be reconsulted. Or not, if the call-in is successful and Cllr. Davey is asked to think again.

Cllr Peltzer Dunn said the decisions were riddled with “distinct lack of clarity,” “factually inaccurate,” failed to “uphold the integrity and transparency of the decision-making process” and left residents “completely confused and unsure.” There will be inadequate consultation with adjoining roads most effected by displacement parking.

Cllr Peltzer Dunn said: “I believe that the whole basis for the report was fundamentally flawed” with “misinformation and additional ad hoc recommendations (serving) to confuse the public, with the confusion being exacerbated by the contradictory decisions subsequently published.”

By the time the committee concludes, there may be will even more U-turns and dead-ends.
