A nanny who admitted she "hated being seen as poor" has been found guilty of stealing cash from the private account of the heiress she worked for.

Beatrice Dalton, 25, was treated as one of the family as nanny to the four children of Lady Louisa Collings.

The daughter of the 10th Duke of Richmond and heiress to the Goodwood estate bought her a car in gratitude for her loyal service.

Dalton collapsed in tears yesterday after being found guilty of secretly siphoning off £6,600 from her aristocratic employer's private account.

The £7-an-hour nanny worked for Lady Louisa and her businessman husband at their country home in Presteigne, mid Wales, for four years.

She went on trial at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court last week accused of six separate charges of fraud amounting to more than £12,000.

Last week the trial judge directed the jury to find her not guilty of two of those charges.

Today the jury found her not guilty of three further fraud charges after being given a majority direction.

But she was found guilty of the most serious offence - using a Barclaycard to dishonestly withdraw £6,600 - by a majority of 11 to 1.

The judge adjourned the case for pre-sentence reports and released Dalton on conditional bail.
