Bus companies may be forced to share tickets in a bid to increase competition.

The Competition Commission wants more schemes where customers can use their tickets on more than just one operator’s service.

It would mean that passengers in Brighton and Hove would be able to use Big Lemon and Stagecoach tickets on Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company (BHB) services.

BHB managing director Roger French said he welcomed the commission’s provisional findings but questioned whether passengers wanted multi-operator tickets.

He said: “The evidence is where we do have them the sales of them are very low.

“There has been long established multi-operator system in Lewes but sales are extremely low.

“The evidence says everyone says they would like one but instead they buy a saver.”

However Tom Druitt, Big Lemon managing director, said the report had “vindicated” his concerns about bus competition in the city.
