READERS of The Argus should be aware there is now a public exhibition in front of Brighton Central Library of plans for the new RSCH, complete with a large model. People should go and look at it.
As far as treating patients goes, it’s fine. Otherwise, it’s an expensive eyesore – very ugly, it is architecturally 50 years out of date, and looks like the sort of Stalinist monument that used to be built in the old East Germany.
Technically, it is not efficient; a jumble of buildings laid out across the site, with the appearance of an old-style council housing development.
There seems to be an official idea that a public building used by ordinary people must be ugly. Nothing daring, amazing or modern must be allowed for the common people. But it’s 2011, not 1950.
