As the Member of Parliament for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, which includes Moulsecoomb & Bevendean, I recently submitted a response to Brighton and Hove City Council’s consultation on bus services funded by the Council.

Contracts for the existing services expire in September 2012. Over the next few months the Council will be working on the specifications for replacement services.

From speaking to local residents I am acutely aware of the inadequate service for Bevendean, particularly the 49A service. A recent survey of Bevendean residents revealed that 90% of respondents felt that the service was inadequate.

I know that many people rely on the bus to get them to school/college or work on time and currently the unreliability of the service means people are frequently late. Therefore I have called on Brighton and Hove City Council to improve the service for residents of Bevendean, and to consider introducing a shuttle service for the Moulsecoomb & Bevendean area, as desired by many residents who have contacted me about this issue.

I would be keen to hear the views of the residents of Bevendean.  If you have a comment about the local bus services, or any local issue, then please do not hesitate to contact me at simon.kirby.mp@parliament.uk I also hold twelve surgeries across the constituency, Including in Moulsecoomb & Bevendean, so please do get in touch.
