The biggest ever strike ballot in Sussex was launched yesterday with more than 20,000 public sector workers being urged to walk out in a pension row.

Probation officers, nurses, paramedics, social workers, teaching assistants, mental health staff and hospital cleaners across the county will vote over the next few weeks on whether to join a mass national walkout on November 30.

The event is predicted to be the biggest outbreak of industrial unrest ever seen in the UK.

Unison is expecting up to 20,000 people, including members of other unions, to join a march and demonstration in Brighton on that date.

About 8,000 people are being balloted in Brighton and Hove alone.
