A 22-year-old shop assistant was stabbed in the chest during a knife-point robbery.
The incident happened at the Happy Shopper in the Avenue in the Bevendean area of Brighton at around 4.30pm tonight.
A male attacker left the scene with around £550 in cash, cigarettes and wine bottles taken from the store.
The robber cornered the shop assistant while helping himself to cash from the till while a woman and two young boys waited outside the store.
The shop assistant, named locally as Kesavan Subramnijam who had been working at the store for around eight months, was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
