A “car-free" day and a plan to turn garden walls into benches were just some of ideas that impressed a panel of city chiefs.
City Forum Brighton was designed as a way for people to put forward ideas to make Brighton and Hove better.
Plans to involve young people and help the elderly were among those to receive informal support from a panel of public, private and voluntary bosses.
One of the ideas included Brighton and Hove taking part in the European Mobility Week, an annual event designed to encourage people to use transport other than the car.
This could see sections of the city pedestrianised for a day-long festival although some expressed concern about the impact it could have on the economy.
Representatives from the police and Brighton and Hove City Council supported the idea.
Campaigner Rob Shepherd said the group would now seek the support of the Green administration so it could be held in September 2012.
