A 22-year-old mother died while her four-year-old son lay sleeping in the next room.
Police and an ambulance crew were called to a flat in Penhurst Court in Ashburnham Close, Worthing at around 9.30pm on Saturday.
The alarm was raised by a concerned relative who was worried about the welfare of the parent.
Officers forced their way into the property they found the 22-year old woman unconscious and despite the efforts of the paramedics, she died at the scene.
Her 4-year old son was found safely asleep on his bed in the next room.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and the Coroner’s Officer has been informed.
