Update: A newsagent was held at knifepoint this morning.

Park Road Newsagents in Park Road, Coldean, Brighton, was targeted at 6.40am.

The newsagent, named locally as Sam Suchak, was described as being "shaken up" by friends.

Police tape cordoned off the shop this morning.

Police confirmed a man was in custody in relation to the incident.

A police spokeswoman said it was too early to say if it was linked to a similar at the Happy Shopper in The Avenue, Bevendean, last night, when a man was stabbed.

A statement said: "The shop owner was threatened by a man with a knife, but ran from the scene empty handed after an alarm sounded.

"The victim received minor injuries during the robbery, but did not require medical assistance.

A man is currently in custody on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery."

Detective Constable Richard Mackenzie said: "Detectives are in the very early stages of investigating this serious offence. Support is being offered to the shop owner, who has understandably been left shocked by what has happened.

"Neighbourhood officers are assisting with the investigation by speaking to local residents and shop workers. Forensic examinations are underway. Anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately."
