Update: A woman has been arrested on suspicion of robbing a convenience shop.

A man was stabbed during the robbery at the Happy Shopper convenience store, Upper Bevendean Avenue, Brighton, at around 4.50pm yesterday.

A man threatened the 23-year-old shop assistant with a knife and demanded he hand over cash, before stabbing the victim causing a superficial wound to the chest.

A woman entered the shop while the robbery was taking place and ran from the scene with the suspect along the alleyway by Manton Road in the direction of Meadowview.

The victim was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, for treatment.

Detective Constable Richard Mackenzie said: "Officers were quick to respond to emergency calls and were able to offer support to the victim.

"Police are currently viewing CCTV, conducting house-to-house inquiries and forensic examinations of the scene. We are still in the early stages of the investigation and are still to obtain a full statement from the victim."

The first man suspect is described as black, light complexion, 5'8, stocky build, with a noticeable black eye.

The woman is described as 5'6, medium build, freckles, with ginger hair tied back in a ponytail.

Cash from the till was stolen during the robbery.

The woman was arrested at aruond 10am today in Brighton. She is currently in custody awaiting interview.
