Three civically-minded youths prevented a roll-away car crashing into other vehicles with their own strength.

An unmanned Vauxhall Insignia had slipped off its handbrake and had started to roll down Auckland Drive in Bevendean, Brighton at just after 7pm tonight.

Three quick-thinking passers-by, aged between 18 and 19, used their own strength to stop the car, holding it motionless for around 15 minutes while contacting the emergency services.

Firefighters from Preston Circus attended the scene and were able to secure the vehicle using their towline before the vehicle’s owner could be found.
