Two teenagers suffered suspected minor head injuries in a crash this morning.
The teens were in a van that had overturned on the M23 southbound at 5.40am, a Crawley firefighter said.
It overturned between junctions 10 and 10a.
Afterwards it was struck a glancing blow by a lorry.
The southbound carriageway was shut until 7.30am following the crash.
A Sussex Police statement yesterday morning said: “Emergency services went to the southbound M23 at Crawley after a van had overturned and had then been struck a glancing blow by a passing lorry carrying a crane.
“The two occupants of the van got out unaided and do not initially appear to suffering major injury but have been taken to East Surrey Hospital at Redhill. The lorry driver was unhurt.
“The Highways Agency closed the southbound carriageway south of Junction 9 for Gatwick while the crash was dealt with.
“There was a tailback on the southbound M23 back to Junction 9, and pressure on surrounding roads, as a result of the crash. However the outside lane was re-opened by 7.30am.”
