A delivery driver was injured after being crushed by a delivery crate loaded with sweets.

The worker, who is in his 40s, suffered abdominal, arm and leg injuries after he got “manually trapped” by the crate packed with confectionary and other goods.

He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton following the incident which took place at 9am yesterday (Wednesday) in a car park at the back of the Swan Walk shopping centre in Horsham.

Security staff from the centre rushed to help him before paramedics arrived, according to a Swan Walk spokeswoman.

She said she was not able to say anymore about the incident.

However, witnesses said the man was in a great deal of pain.

The man was delivering products for Superdrug when the incident happened.

A Superdrug spokeswoman said: “We can confirm there was an incident at our Horsham store concerning one of our delivery drivers who is now being treated in hospital.

“The health and safety of our customers and colleagues is always our primary concern.

“At this time our priority is the wellbeing of our colleague and we will be offering any help we can to aid his recovery.”

Shopkeepers from the centre said they saw a lot of ambulances and were shocked to learn what had happened.

An ambulance spokeswoman said: “The incident happened just before 9am. He was manually trapped.”

Sussex Air Ambulance also attended the scene.
