LAST Sunday, myself and some friends had the unfortunate task of moving our five ponies to a new field. This is something that was taken out of our hands as the local authority wants the land back.
We managed to get three ponies loaded into a box and dispatched them to their new home. Before coming to us, though, one of the ponies had a horrific accident while being loaded. He is now petrified of getting into a horse box.
We realised he wasn’t going to load and our only option was to walk to the new field.
We made our way down Falmer Road from Woodingdean towards Dean Court Road, where we could get off the road and walk over countryside to their new home in Saltdean.
I would like to thank the drivers who saw us walking down Falmer Road and slowed down and even stopped.
At times it was quite hair-raising, with the pony backing up and trying to rear.
The people in their cars were fantastic. Motorcyclists cut their engines and the drivers of the Number 2 bus also understood the pony’s fears.
To the person who thought it was a good idea to overtake the patient queue of cars waiting, all I can say is in doing so you could have caused a nasty accident for yourself and our pony if had he reared and come down on your car, which I believe you had a family in. I’m sure your journey was not worth that.
To everyone else, thank you for your patience.
