Residents watched in horror as a shed fire spread to a ground floor flat.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue said multiple calls were received panicked residents about the blaze in Crisp Road, Lewes.
Three fire engines were required to battle the fire which was sparked at just before 7pm.
No one was hurt in the incident. The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
