A PARKED car rolled 100 metres down a hill and smashed through a wall before hanging precariously over a 20ft drop.

The black Audi is believed to have been parked in Milner Road, Brighton, overnight before rolling across the street and crashing at about 10.30am yesterday.

Neighbour Jane Harman said: “I think the handbrake failed and it just rolled. That’s why we always leave our car parked in gear.

"It’s a real worry and really lucky no one was hurt. Remarkably the car didn’t have a scratch on it.”

A 33-year-old neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “It missed my boyfriend’s car by about two inches. The guy had parked it up the hill the previous night but in the morning it just rolled.

“He had come down to visit a friend for the night. I have never seen a paler teenager. He looked mortified.”

The car was towed away to see if there was anything wrong with it.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “An Audi A3 rolled into the front of a house in Milner Road, Brighton, at 10.40am.

“It is believed the handbrake slipped. It caused serious damage to the wall of a house. No one was injured.”
