A fight to build a community hospital will reach the most powerful street in the country in December.
Members of the Littlehampton Community Hospital campaign will deliver almost 8,000 protest letters to 10 Downing Street on December 5.
They include Arun District Council leader Gillian Brown and Littlehampton mayor Alan Gammon.
The campaign is fighting to get work started on a £10 million community hospital, which has been on hold since 2006.
Coun Brown said: “Littlehampton not only wants its hospital but it desperately needs it.
“Being able to present so many thousands of signatures to Downing Street demonstrates in the clearest way we know how high the level of feeling is in this town.
Coun Brown will write a personal letter to the Prime Minister to accompany the letters, asking Mr Cameron to receive the grave concerns of Littlehampton’s residents and seek a reason from health bosses as to why the town is still waiting.
Investigations by campaigners revealed that £400,000 has already been spent on the project – despite a brick never having been laid at the Fitzalan Road site.
NHS Sussex is expected to make a decision on the future of the hospital early next year.
