Sussex historian David Rowland wants to find out more about prisoner of war camps in the county during the Second World War.
This picture shows German prisoners in Lower Bevendean digging trenches to provide services.
It was taken in October 1945, five months after the war had ended and he comments: “I am sure they were looking forward to going back to Germany.”
Although they were working in Brighton, Mr Rowland believes there were no camps in the resort, the nearest being in the Lewes/Ringmer area. Most camps were in rural locations.
Please send any information to me and I will pass it on to him.
