A singer is bidding to prove she has the X Factor by winning the final of the TV talent show.

Lucy Newton, 25, is a member of The Unconventionals, one of the four groups to get through to the final 12 this weekend.

Promotions assistant Lucy is the youngest of three sisters and still lives with her parents Lyn and Ken Newton in Edburton Gardens, Shoreham.

Her elder sister Michelle, 37, said: "She was always singing as a little girl. When she was two or three I used to take her with me to my dance class at the stage school here in Shoreham.

"But as soon as she could walk and talk she wanted to go to her own class. She wanted to do it so badly.

"I think her first performance was probably when she was three years old."

Lucy went to Sion School in Worthing where she was a regular face in school plays and even sang at the headmaster's retirement party.

All three sisters, Lucy, Michelle, and Tania, 38, have continued to perform, sometimes as a trio.

Michelle said: "I got married a few weeks ago and the three of us performed a cabaret for my guests.

"We are a very musical family, I have two child r e n Luke, 13, and Lauren, 11.

Lauren is a dancer but Luke takes after his auntie. He has already decided to audition for X Factor when he turns 16."

The family live just a few streets apart in Shoreham.

Michelle said: "We have all been watching her at home.

"Up until now we have known what was going to happen because she has been filming, but now we have caught up to it.

"They only have a limited number of tickets available for the live show on Saturday, so me and my husband Lee are going up there this week.

We are all going to take turns to go, and hopefully they will be in it for many weeks to come and we will all be able to go up together at some point."

Michelle last saw Lucy on Sunday.

She said: "Some of the finalists were given a day off so we all went up to see her and went out for dinner. She has just had her hair cut in to a bob. It was a bit of a shock.

"Lucy has always had long hair but they have given her a whole new image.

"But she is really enjoying it. She is having a ball and I hope it lasts a few more weeks for her."
