In your report of the parade and rally for Fresh Air in Newhaven (The Argus, October 9), you say, "Lewes MP Norman Baker and the Mayor of Worthing, Major Tom Wye, both addressed the rally".

I'm not sure the Mayor of Worthing was at the rally - at least, I didn't see him.

As Mayor of Newhaven, I would have expected to have been told if he was coming. Still, I did address the rally.

I think it is important for everyone to know that just because things have gone quiet recently, it doesn't mean the anger and opposition to the mindless proposal for a waste incinerator at Newhaven has gone away.

Neither should the county and city councils or Veolia think they will have an easy ride from now on.

Far from it. Never mind about it being in the wrong place, it is the wrong answer to the problem. It has always been the wrong answer to the problem.

Let alone the possibility of noxious substances being released into the atmosphere, 160,000 tonnes per annum of carbon dioxide and water vapour will be released into the atmosphere. Aren't we supposed to be addressing global warming? And where will the 80,000 tonnes of ash go? A landfill site no doubt.

Plastics, metals, glass, paper, wood - in fact a whole catalogue of pre-processed resources are going free, gratis and for nothing and what are they proposing to do with them? Burn them. Where is the common sense in that?

Newhaven and its town council remains opposed to this stupidity.
