A girl offered to perform a sex act on a teenager she later accused of raping her in a graveyard, a court heard.

Friends told a jury the girl was drunk when she made the offer to Alex Maynard in a Brighton park in front of her boyfriend.

They also said she had later kissed and groped Maynard in a nightclub when her boyfriend left to go to the toilet.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said the claims were not true when she gave evidence at Hove Crown Court last week.

Maynard, 18, denies raping her in the graveyard at St Nicholas Church, Dyke Road, Brighton, on January 24 last year.

He was jailed for four-and-a-half years after being convicted of the rape after a trial in June last year.

He won a re-trial after the Court of Appeal overturned the conviction for legal reasons.

Maynard, of The Crescent, Bevendean, Brighton, was remanded in custody to await the new hearing.

He denies making an intimidating phone call to the girl and her boyfriend from his prison cell in June.

Finn Ogilvy yesterday said he was with Maynard and other friends when the girl offered to give him oral sex in Dyke Road Park.

Mr Ogilvy said: "She tried to push him towards the bushes but Alex resisted because she was too drunk and her boyfriend was only a few metres away."

Ed McCauley said on another occasion he had seen the girl rubbing Maynard's groin and kissing him after her boyfriend went to the toilet at Club New York, Brighton.

Maynard is alleged to have raped the girl in the graveyard after asking her to leave a birthday party at the Planet nightclub in North Street, Brighton.

The incident was filmed by a couple collecting evidence of antisocial behaviour in the area.

They later told police they believed they were witnessing an indecent act and did not realise it was an alleged rape.

The trial continues.
