An Oscar-winning actor is among the stars of a film being shot in Brighton.

And When Did You Last See Your Father is based on the best-selling book by Blake Morrison and tells the autobiographical story of the author's relationship with his father.

Filming began on Tuesday in the Palace Pier area of the city.

It stars Jim Broadbent, who won best supporting Oscar for his role in Iris, Bridget Jones actor Colin Firth and Juliet Stephenson, who starred in Bend It Like Beckham.

In July Woody Allen used the Palace Pier and Black Rock as locations for his latest film, known only as WASP 06 - Woody Allen's Summer Project, which is due out next year.

Brian Walsh, spokesman for Brighton and Hove City Council, said: "Brighton is the most fun city in Britain. It has history, culture and it's cosmopolitan, people want to come to live here and people want to film here."
