I HAVE an ordinary, small family car, like thousands of people in Brighton.

When I drive at 30mph, I can use fifth gear, but at 20mph I have to drive in fourth or even third gear.

According to my petrol gauge, this increases fuel usage considerably.

At 20mph, I use more fuel per mile and therefore pump out more emissions than at 30mph.

Imposing a city-wide 20mph speed limit is going to increase pollution and the emission of greenhouse gases throughout the city, not reduce them.

You only have to drive slowly on the M25 during a busy period to experience this.
