ARMED robbers stormed a convenience store before threatening staff and making off with cash and cigarettes.

Police are hunting four men, who were armed with guns and knives, after the raid on McColls store, Holly Place, Eastbourne, on May 10.

The men entered the shop at 9.50pm before threatening two female members of staff.

They locked the workers in a toilet cubicle and took cash from the safe and cigarettes from behind the tills.

They were seen escaping across a field at the back of the shop towards Croxden Way.

Police say the men were wearing balaclavas, gloves and slip on plimsoll shoes.

Two of them had large carving knives and one had a silver-coloured handgun.

Detective Inspector Ian Williams said: "We are appealing for witnesses who saw the men approaching or fleeing the shop or anyone who saw any suspicious looking vehicles with four men inside.

"We would like to reassure the community that such robberies in Eastbourne are rare but anyone who has any information should contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 1641 of 10/05."
