Hollingbury Table Tennis Club has been given a grant by Brighton and Hove City Council grant.

The club will be using the £250 ClubMark Club grant to offer free taster coaching sessions to encourage juniors from across the city to learn to play, and develop their skills in the sport.

A lottery funded grant also helped 22-year-old Chris Young qualify as a level 1 coach after training for seven years with the club.

The club has a number of other success stories, including 13-year-old Emma Sheen who first joined the club four and a half years ago as a beginner, and now represents the southeast. She said: “It is a great place to have fun, and make new friends.”

Emma is ranked 20th out of 400 girls in the country, and has aspirations of competing for her country at the Olympic games one day.

The club regularly competes in regional and national competitions.

Coach Wesley Bush-Harris said: “It’s important for the kids to have something competitive to work towards as well as having fun in training.”

Hollingbury Table Tennis Club is based at Bevendean Primary School, and offers coaching sessions Monday, Tuesday, and Friday evenings with open practice on Sundays.
