IT WAS good to see three people finally convicted for illegal fox hunting – the first prosecution of its kind in the county (The Argus, May 15).

To see these three finally pay for their behaviour and lack of respect for foxes feels good to me and many others I am sure.

In a recent television programme about urban foxes, it was proven that more than 80% of the general public are not worried about foxes.

We saw that the rural fox is a healthier fox, but never less pretty and much the same in almost every way as the urban fox.

Foxes cannot kill chickens and pets in hutches if their housing is strong and secure.

As the fox has a short life, and as only one or two cubs out of a litter of five go on to be adult, we have no reason to hunt them.

Hunting is out-of-date and the majority don’t want to see it come back.

The fox is respected by so many and should now be left to take its rightful place in the eco system, controlling some of our pests for us, as it does.

I hope this prosecution sends out a strong message.
