A campaign to safeguard an iconic former bathhouse has been backed by an MP.
Mike Weatherley has signed a petition calling for Brighton and Hove City Council to produce a planning brief for Medina House, in Hove.
The owners of the building were recently given a council order to carry out external renovation work, but now residents have called for protection to help preserve the Royal Doulton tiling on the interior of the building.
The petition was filed by campaign group saveHOVE in a bid to protect the building from redevelopment.
Mr Weatherley, the MP for Hove, said: “Action is well overdue.
“For too long Brighton and Hove City Council has dragged its feet over Medina House.
“I have been campaigning for some time now for a coordinated approach, first to evict the squatters and then to address the future of the historic building.
“My colleague, councillor Andrew Wealls, has been on the case too and is leading the fight locally. I urge anybody who cares about the building to sign as soon as possible.”
