More than 250 avid cyclists rode through the streets of Sussex on Saturday, September 8 on a London to Brighton ride and raised around £25,000 for Action Medical Research.

It is the charity's 60th anniversary this year, with cycle rides organised for the last 30 years to raise money for sick children.

Community fundraising manager Sarah Stevenson said: “We’ve got the iconic ride which is London to Brighton but we’ve decided to do it as a smaller event”

“We fund medical research that affects babies and children in the UK, anything from pre-mature birth to rare diseases and disability.”

Cyclists paid £28 or £50 to take part in the race and this is how money is raised for the charity.

Miss Stevenson said: “We organise about 25 of events throughout the year so we have them all over the country and this is just one of them. It’s quite cost effective; it doesn’t cost us too much to put all this up.

"We have been running lots of them for about seven years now all over the UK. The catering is always wonderful and the riders keep coming back and they also get a free massage as well.”
