As a Green Party member and a committed Christian, I was saddened to hear of the treatment meted out to Councillor Christina Summers (The Argus, September 18).
I doubt very much the subject of same-sex marriage was brought up on the doorsteps, as most voters, particularly Green supporters, are more concerned with climate change, the environment, education, employment, health and transport.
Making a decision on such a contentious issue is tough and eats away at the moral conscience. It should be an individual, personal decision.
Unfortunately the Christian vote is no longer heard.
Admittedly, like capital punishment, it polarises opinions.
Equality means Christians should be allowed to vote in line with Biblical principles.
Most of us accept civil partnerships, which protect the rights of individuals, and love people irrespective of sexuality.
I hope Coun Summers continues to be a voice for moral good, as an independent, and that she will seek re-election in that capacity, defeating anyone who stands against her.
