A man wounded in a shoot-out with police outside his home was being kept under sedation in intensive care last night (September 19).

Paul Allwright, 62, of North Way, Seaford, was shot shortly before 1am on Sunday, September 16 .

Sussex Police said he had a shotgun and shots were exchanged with officers.

They are treating the case as attempted murder of police.

Mr Allwright is in a stable condition in a “medically induced coma” at the Royal Sussex County Hospital .

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the shooting.

So far the watchdog has refused to reveal the extent of Mr Allwright’s injuries and where on his body he was shot.

Its investigators are understood to have been gathering statements from the officers at the scene.

They are setting out to compare those accounts with independent evidence from the scene, including ballistics evidence about the shots fired, to establish the chain of events leading to his injury.
