A number of letters have recently highlighted local options for older people requiring help, such as through the well-established charity Age UK.
Brighton is also host to the largest good neighbour scheme in the country, the Neighbourhood Care Scheme, which enables volunteers to support their older neighbours, thus helping people to remain living in their own homes for longer.
In addition, for those looking to enjoy a more active older age, LifeLines supports volunteers aged 50+ to run activities and offer one-on-one support for older people who would like to get out more, meet others and have fun. Anyone wishing to find out more about these fantastic organisations and others supporting older people locally can come along to an open day at Patching Lodge in Eastern Road, Brighton, on Thursday, October 18, from 10am until noon.
Gwyneth Chanlewis, volunteer with the Neighbourhood Care Scheme
