A NEW bakery in Worthing has welcomed more than 1,400 customers through its doors in the first few days.

Warrens Bakery has opened its latest store at number 64 on Montague Street.

The Worthing bakery is the second Warrens Bakery to open in West Sussex and was officially opened by Worthing Deputy Mayor, Cllr Hazel Thorpe and her Consort, Robin Rogers.

The newly-launched store has created eight jobs for local people in the area.

As the oldest Cornish pasty maker in the world and a proud guardian of the Cornish pasty, it’s no surprise Warrens Bakery’s pasties and savouries have been one of their most popular baked goods in the new store so far.

A staggering 1,498 savouries and pasties were sold in just the store’s first few days, 500 of which were Warrens Bakery’s medium steak pasties.

Since opening, the town has welcomed Cornwall’s oldest bakery with open arms.

Worthing Deputy Mayor, Cllr Hazel Thorpe, said: “It was a real pleasure to open the Warrens Bakery store recently.

“Their creative approach to fresh food and a positive working atmosphere for their staff was a breath of fresh air.

“Currently, as one of only two outlets in the South East region - Worthing town should be proud to support this venture.”

Franchisee Emma Johnston said: “With the rise in popularity of craft bakery, we thought it was the perfect time to bring the oldest Cornish pasty maker in the world and their award-winning delicacies to the people of Worthing.

“We’re thrilled with the level of support we’ve been shown and have already received wonderful feedback from our new customers.

“Visitors to the bakery have also been commenting on the delicious freshly baked smells wafting out of the bakery all the way down the high street.”

Carl Mortimer, franchise operations at Warrens Bakery, said: “ “We’re delighted to have opened our latest store in Worthing.”
